Schwabing – a creative’s cradle

Painting away time on a lovely warm September afternoon on my Dad’s terrace (on top of what used to be a stained glass artist’s studio) in my old neighborhood Schwabing in Munich.
Schwabing used to be famous as Munich’s bohemian quarter and has an amazing history as a cultural center for literature and fine arts. I wonder what the days were like when writers and artists like Rainer Maria Rilke, Thomas Mann and Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, August Macke, Alfred Kubin, Fanny zu Reventlow and many more were roaming these streets.
I was born and raised in Schwabing and lived here twenty-something years until I left Munich.
I love Schwabing and I think it is the best borough of Munich. My biggest love and the best ‘thing’ in Munich also lies, with its biggest and best parts, in Schwabing: The Englischer Garten, one of the world’s largest public parks. Larger than New York’s Central Park!
