Since the release of her debut album in her home country of Germany, singer/songwriter Alev Lenz has busied herself with gigs in London and New York alongside working on soundtracks for several high profile German films and recording what will become her second album in London’s Premises Studios.
Song No. 1 and Memphis are the first tracks taken from Alevʼs second album and take in a diverse set of influences, from European classical through to experimental electronics. Alev’s main collaborator for the album was acclaimed Finnish drummer Samuli Kosminen (Múm, Hauschka, Kronos Quartet, Jónsi). A mutual friend suggested they work together, which began weeks and months of emailing sessions from London to Helsinki and back. Song No. 1 and Memphis are the first songs from that collaboration. The two songs were then mixed by Jas Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco.

My debutalbum “Storytelling Piano Playing Fräulein”, release February 2009. I did the illustrations based on my amazing experiences in the songwriter scene in New York City and my love for the city itself. Watch the video “Guys With Guitars”, where my good friend and director Edouard Charuit captured the “good times” in the East Village and one of my gigs at the Sidewalk Cafe.
Credits “Storytelling Piano Playing Fräulein”:

Produced by Don Philippe

Those are soundtracks I sang on and/or wrote lyrics or composed for or that have used my songs.
My newest single “Song No. 1″ is featured on the Movie (and the trailer ! See below!) “Heute bin ich Blond” (the Girl With Nine Wigs). The Movie “Türkisch für Anfänger” featured my track from the Live Session at The Premises 2012 “Well”. The movie “The Dead and The Living” features a cover song I arranged and produced.
You can listen to “Im Winter ein Jahr” (2008, Director: Caroline Link) and “Die Wilden Hühner” (2009, Director: Vivian Naefe) on which I sang, and on “Maria, ihm schmeckt’s nicht” (2009, Director: Neele Jeana Vollmar) I wrote the lyrics for the track “It’s you and me”. Bon Appétit (2010, Director: David Pinillos) featured my track “Guys With Guitars”.
